A Simple Favor is the latest film from Paul Feig that's based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Darcey Bell, and stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Linda Cardellini, Jean Smart, and Rupert Friend. After the massive flop of the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, which I still haven't seen to this day, I wondered how will Paul make a strong comeback to redeem himself as a filmmaker, but apparently, he surprised me and many moviegoers when his new film was released to theaters in the form of a thriller! At first glance, the movie looks as if it was made by a completely different director in terms of its visual style and premise, but its trailers have got me very intrigued, including seeing Blake Lively take on this kind of role that contrasts that of Anna Kendrick's usual cutesy charm. So after finally seeing A Simple Favor, what did I think? Watch this video and see for yourself. A heads up before you watch the video: the picture quality seems to be a bit off from Wi-Fi reception and I made the video right after coming back from seeing the film, so I didn't have much to time to prepare. But regardless, I hope you enjoy it.
In short, A Simple Favor was the comeback Paul Feig managed to pull off after the Ghostbusters reboot fiasco, all thanks to its brilliantly smart and engaging story that's packed with twists and sharp dark humor, strong performances from Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, eye-catching production, and its unique balance of tone. You gotta love it when a director thinks outside the box and brings something new to the table! Really makes you wonder what other surprises other directors like Feig have in store in the future! Thanks for turning in to my latest RMNT Review and look for more of these later on, including my first upcoming Theatre Review!
